The Superior Man has a lot of wise sayings in it. The following were the ones that stood out the most to me. "Without recognizing the ordinances of Heaven, it is impossible to be a superior man." "The object of the superior man is truth, not food." "Poverty and baseness are what men dislike." "The progress of the superior man is upwards, the progress of the mean is downwards." "The superior man is modest in his speech, but exceeds in his actions."
The Master explained what a superior man is and what he brings to the table. This is what people were looking for in a ruler or a pharaoh. They wanted someone that was firm with their word and that word was something they could trust. The superior man needs to be wise but approachable.
The Master explains to Tzu-kung that the superior man hates men that pull others down. He hates men that slanders his superiors. When he sees gain to be got, he thinks of righteousness.
